When I first began training ministry leaders, I was clear that there were three aspects of having a successful ministry and if one of these three aspects were off, creating a thriving ministry is very difficult.
Then I heard John Arnott, the vessel The Lord used for the Toronto Blessing (along with his wife) speak on the Inward, Upward and Outward journeys that we all must undergo. It resonated so deeply with me because it finally gave me the language for what I already deeply understood.
You must master the inward journey, then the upward journey and lastly the outward journey. If any one of these pieces are not in proper place and order, your ministry will suffer, which means the portion of the Lord’s flock He has assigned you will suffer.
